Mapping: Materials and Textures

I wanted the lighting in this one to resemble moonlight; hence the blueish tinge. Unfortunately I think it ended up dulling the colors.

Ellen,

Good to see your experimentation with materials. Currently the lighting fixtures don't look very realistic because they don't have enough contrast. Typically it is not easy to look at the brightest part of a lighting fixture because it is so white.
Perhaps you need to rethink how the lamp works so that it shines a lot of light on the back wall instead of casting a shadow. The placement of the lights, the opening in the back plate and the reflectivity will all make a difference in the result that you get.
I greatly encourage you to play with variations on what the components are for this lamp: the number of spokes, the shape of the back reflector and the front screen. It may be that some of the effects that you are seeking can't be easily simulated with this program, even if you use Radiozity; you may have to fake the effect you want by painting with light sources. Remember you can do lots of quick renderings if you just make the window really small.

We should look at this model together.
